Anger part 2

Hi coaches, in response to my last submission you asked what am I protecting myself from, and I’m not really sure. Possibly being treated like a child or having my power taken away from me, so protecting myself from feeling powerless perhaps.
But can anger in a stress response come up without a preceding thought? It was so intense and sudden, it was almost like the thoughts came afterwards.

Answer:

The physical reaction you had definitely could have been a nervous system response. I would encourage you to sit with the feelings and sensations you experienced in the moment and after. Describe it. Where was it in your body? Did it have a temperature? A color? If you painted it, what would it look like? Does it move? Where do you guess it came from? Sometimes words like “anger” can mean so many things. It’s less important how we label it and more important that you allow yourself to compassionately observe what happened. No judgement.
Whatever happened, that’s now in the past. What’s important is you taking this opportunity to evalute what happened and decide how you want to proceed moving forward. How do you want to speak to yourself? How do you want to approach dog training? How do you want to be as a partner? You can create that.
