Boat pt.2

Thank you for your answer! It has taken me a while of mulling over this to reply.
You asked the ways in which the boat could be completed that I haven’t considered yet. My list was as follows:
– The boat could be completed by doing the ‘baseline minimum’: just enough to have it sailing again.
– The boat could be completed in stages
Not a huge list!
The conclusion I have come to is that I can do both of these things. I can actively work on being less perfectionist, doing the minimum to get the boat sailing. I can also just focus on each stage at a time.
So my Autumn goal is now to get the boat to where I live now. Focusing on this rather than the whole project is helpful. To have it in mind as a goal I really do want to achieve is also very good motivation on the days that I feel less inclined to show up and do the work.
My 3 rocks are:
– Show up and do the work
– Prioritise rest and regulating emotions, in order to have the energy and clarity to do the work
– Reduce distractions I.E. other projects, desires, etc, and focus on the goal.
There is something about the goal and rocks that feels a little bit cold or harsh. Maybe because it is about reaching something physical and tangible, rather than working on my approach/mind state. Do you have any feedback on this?

Answer:

Hooray for new perspectives! Congratulations on making this mindset shift.
Creating any result you want, whether it’s physical or intangible requires mindset and thought work. I agree that if you don’t show up and do the work, the boat will not be completed unless you hire someone else to complete it (and if that works financially…that is another totally viable way to meet your goal!). If it’s you needing to show up to do work (even if it’s the bare minimum), what brain space feels warm and generous to you, and allows you to soften into this place instead of force yourself there? How will this support you on hard days? Take your best guess. Rocks are hypotheses, and if one doesn’t work you can change it. Start there and expand into your other rocks when you’re ready. Bring your experience and realizations back here for next steps in part 3.
