Hi,
Last year, I spent a fair amount of time working on a book proposal. I submitted it to three agents before xmas: 2 didn’t reply. 1 did and said they liked the idea, thought it was a strong proposal, good writing, but essentially didn’t think I had a big enough online following so too risky.
As a result, I decided to pause the submissions this jan-march, while I build up my online following, with social media and a newsletter.
Also, I’d paused income-generating work while working on this at the end of last year, and money has since become more of a worry / priority for me. So I would like some time and space to rebuild that and get started again.
As a result, my new season check in instinct is to continue to pause this. And to re-visit it next season and re-assess.
But one thing that worries me is what if this is coming out of feeling rejected and not putting myself out there again because of that?
The thing is, I really don’t think it is that – I genuinely don’t think it’s the right time for me to working on a project like this, and do want to prioritise stabilising and updating my business to be something more sustainable before putting energy into bringing something else into it (especially given that it would then require a lot of time to write it, and further impact my income generation).
Do you have any tips on unpacking this?
Many thanks
Answer:
Why does your brain think you need to unpack it? It sounds like you know what you want and you like your reasons. What are you afraid of if you just trust yourself here?
