Hello wonderful TFC coaches. So I have a lot going on in my head when it comes to the next steps of my professional life in the future.
A bit of context:
I am a yoga teacher. I am 31 years old, been working as a yoga teacher for the last 7 years and it has always been my main job. I love it. I have always been able to sustain myself, and have been very satisfied with my life but in the last year or two I find myself wanting more money so that I can invest in my future project of building a permaculture farm and retreat center.
My job as a yoga teacher has taken different aspects in the years: regular classes, workshops, running my own retreats, teaching at other people’s retreats, organise events and conventions, assist other teachers in their teacher trainings.
I started having the feeling that I am working in many different directions and feel a bit “scattered”. I would really like to find a way for all these different elements to come together in a fluid concept, so that I can optimise the time and effort I put into advertising.
I thought about setting my own retreat brand since I have many contacts of locations and a lot of expertise, but I am scared about having to take care of the advertising part, specifically about social media managing. I don’t really want to take care of that side. I am starting to consider hiring someone but I don’t think I have the budget (generally speaking I feel like my work require more and more social media presence and interaction and I feel like social media has a very bad influence on my thoughts and feelings). So the concept here I think is basically, I am an amazing yoga teacher, I am very good event planner, I have many contacts that I built throughout the years that I can exploit. I can put all these skills into a new business idea. I do not want to face the part of the business where I have to sell myself. Where I have to use social media.
I have been sitting with this for a while now and I feel a bit stuck in my thoughts. Any kick to get unstuck appreciated!
Answer:
Congratulations, you have a working human brain! It sees you setting some new goals and it immediately gives you a reason it’s not going to work: social media is scary and impossible. It also likes to stay in all or nothing thinking. Both of these keep you from expending energy and venturing into the unknown, two things your brain hates. The trick here is to be onto your brain. Notice what it’s doing, thank it, and then get to work creating the life you want. Everything is figureoutable.
Here’s your kick to get unstuck: it’s not about you.
Do some journaling on why you want to run yoga retreats. What are the benefits to the people who attend? What is different when they go home? What’s amazing about doing yoga in a focused, beautiful environment with like minded people? That’s what you are selling. That’s what people will buy.
