Hi coaches,
My partner and I are currently buying a house. I have put nearly all my savings into the deposit. I am conscious that in a few months’ time I will also have to pay another bill, and I know I will be able to save enough money between now and then to pay it. However, I am feeling anxious about this whole process. I think this is because I am thinking that “I am not good at managing money so i won’t be able to save enough to pay both the bill and the deposit”. I know that I am capable of managing the situation and paying for both things, and so really want to not feel anxious and instead to feel in control and capable. I’m not sure what thought I can pick to feel this. Do you have any advice?
Answer:
What if it was ok to feel a bit anxious? Why does it make perfect sense that you would? How is your brain operating just as it should?
The more we push away and avoid feelings, the bigger they sometimes become. Here are a few thoughts that could help. You come up with some as well after you’ve answered the questions above.
T: Anxiety is not a problem
T: I am open to all feelings
T: anxiety and excitement feel the same in my body
T: Anxiety rides in the passenger seat.
T: I feel some anxiety, and that’s ok.
T: anxiety means I’m really living my life!
Congratulations on buying a house with your partner! How cool is that? Think about a past version of yourself who dreamed and wished for this day. How did they think it would feel?
