Coming off the contraceptive pill, taken back-to-back for a decade for PMT
Hi, I am a brand new Flow Collective member. I have just searched the coaching questions and haven’t found anything to advise me about coming off the pill so I thought I would ask a question. I was put on the contraceptive pill 9 years ago as I was finding the PMT symptoms really distressing as my mental health was very poor. I am now in a much better place and after listening to the BBC Sounds podcast 28ish Days Later and finding Maisie’s teaching I am ready to come off it and brave my hormones. I have no knowledge of my cycle at all and will be doing the Harness Your Hormones module this month. I stopping taking the pill this morning. Do you have any advice for me as my cycle gets going? I presume it won’t be regular for a while so I’m not sure how I’ll track it yet. Having attempted to come off the pill a couple of months ago and experiencing the nosedive in my mood I am also worried about the psychological aspect of allowing my hormones free rein! Thanks so much.
Answer:
Welcome to TFC! We are so glad you are here and ready to get to know your cycle. Definitely get started with the Harness Your Hormones course. There are so many resources it can seem overwhelming but just take it one step at a time.
This is a great question to take to the facebook community. You will get wonderful feedback there.
In Ask a Coach, you can bring things you need mindset coaching on. I notice you have a thought about coming off of the pill. I am going to put it in a model so you can see what it creates for you as you start your jouney.
C: I stopped taking the pill this morning
T: My hormones are going to nosedive
F: Worried
A: What do you do when you’re worried? What are you not doing? How is this worry affecting you?
R: ?
Your actions create your result, and your result always ties back to your thought. What we see happening in models like this is that your brain will continue to find evidence that your hormones are nosediving and you won’t be able to handle it. Your self confidence will nosedive and you’ll stay stuck in this loop. We don’t need to change this, just be aware of how the way you are thinking about this process will affect how it goes. If you want to change it, you can come up with some intentional thougths that will help you feel more confident that you can absolutely do this. Possibly something like: I have all the support I need to succeed.
You’re not alone. You’re exactly where you need to be in TFC. See what comes up as you fill out this model and bring it back to Ask a Coach so we can help you.
