I have just finished the 2025 vision replay, which I loved. My word for 2025 is “grow” and the goal I have chosen to focus on is to make an outfit for a wedding I am going to in July. I have chosen this as I want to grow my sewing/clothes making skills. I have loads of ideas and potential projects and in the past I have struggled to get started, the commit to one project and see it through to completion. I think the reasons for this are fear of failure and not knowing (yet) exactly how to execute on my vision. I also struggle to make a decision of the final design (colours, style etc.). So having this as a goal will mean I have one tangible project to work on that excites me. The rocks I have come up with are: 1) re-watch decision making workshop and use to help me improve my creative decision making, 2) write a clear brief for the outfit (e.g. comfortable, feel good, travel well, compact, using materials I have already, fun, something I will want to and is practical to wear again) 3) be playful and spend the first week researching and putting pen to paper on designs and techniques, 4) make a decision on the design after a week (to stop endless research) and then spend at least 30mins/day 5 x per week on the project (actually cutting/sewing). Please could you provide feedback on the goal and these rocks?
Answer:
First of all, the goal from my perspective sounds so fun! What does it feel like in your body? How do you like your reasons for the goal itself?
As for your rocks, they are great, and I see some ways to consolidate if that feels helpful. I’ve outlined that below.
-
Write a brief for the outfit
-
Practice making decisions within a time frame (within this is the 1-week research play, draw and rewatching the workshop)
-
Cut and sew for 30 mins 5 days/week (ideal) … is there a baseline minimum that would qualify as success to you? What is it?
