Feeling a Failure during my period

I’m not sure where to start.
I was able to coach myself very well during the autumn of my cycle which is when I usually have intrusive thoughts that beat me down. But then I had my period and I felt like my world was crumbling. I feel like I want to leave my husband, I’m angry at myself and I feel desperate and even If I did a thought download this morning and I coach myself an hour later I feel despair for my life. Not all my life. My career mostly.
I don’t know how to get myself out of this rabbit hole.
Thank you!

Answer:

First of all, if you (or anyone reading this) is having suicidal thoughts or considering suicide, seeking out professional support from a therapist, psychiatrist, or doctor is ALWAYS the first and most important step. Have you been in touch with a medical professional?
If you are in immediate danger of harming yourself, please call the Samaritans on 116 123 or your country’s emergency number.
You can find crisis services in your country here https://www.iasp.info/crisis-centres-helplines/
You can also text Shout on 85258 (if you are in the UK), the Suicide & Crisis Helpline on 988 (if you are in America)
When you are really feeling intense emotions it can help to be in your body first before attempting thought work. Feel the vibrations and the sensations that are happening. Describe them. Don’t be in a rush to get rid of them. What would be different if you welcomed these uncomfortable emotions instead of resisting them? How could you support  your body with movement, breathwork, somatic exercises, or other methods that would be simple and doable while you are in this state? What else do you need for support on days like this?
Notice your thought “I don’t know how to get myself out of this rabbit hole.” It feels very true AND you can be open to questioning it. Be curious. You may want to think about this more when you’re feeling better. What if you did know what to do? What if it’s not a rabbit hole? You’ve already brought this to AAC and that shows us you are trying to figure this out. You did start. Keep doing experiments trusting that you will find the tools you need.
