Is coaching for negative thoughts (only)? I see it as something for anxious or nervous days. Can I self coach on an ordinary day to be more intentional with thoughts and actions? Any tips on how to start exploring this?
Answer:
Oh my goodness, GREAT question! And the answer is that it is absolutely for ordinary days too – not just anxious or nervous ones. It’s a great way to get to know your brain in every situation. One excellent way to start exploring coaching is to do a reflection at the end of your day. You can pick one thing that happened to reflect on, or reflect on the day in general. Do a thought download…pick one thought that you find particularly interesting (inspiring, curious, surprising, etc.) and create a model on it. Look and see how you also create the perfectly ordinary and wonderful things in your life and what thoughts you would like to think with more intention.
Another fun tool for reflection is to ask yourself these three questions:
1) What went well?
2) What didn’t go well?
3) What would I like to do differently tomorrow?
This also allows you to understand your thoughts in a different way and get curious about them…why do you think some of the things you’ve written down? Does anything surprise, concern or elate you?
