Getting help

Dear coaches,
I want to get into psychotherapy. I find it very difficult to DO the steps required to get into a regular, weekly talking therapy which gets paid by my insurance. The first step is to call a certain number to get a first appointment. Afterwards I would get a list of free places in my city, that i can then call one after the other, try out and hopefully find a fitting therapist for me.
Even the first call seems like a very big deal. I have tried once but after 10 minutes with the waiting song I just hung up and didn’t try again since. Any help and coaching is very much appreciated.

Answer:

Before anything else, we’re celebrating you making the first call and then knowing it was time to get off the phone. We count that as a win! Think about a person you know and trust who is very good at making calls and getting things done. What would they do? How do they think? What feelings do they experience?  If it feels available to you, try leaning into their example and see what happens.  If possible, what if you asked someone to take these steps with you? When we are in a place where making a phone call seems impossible, let alone all the other steps to finding a therapist you like, it might be time to text in some backup. What do you think?
