Goal question

I’m a little lost as to what I want my summer goal to be. I first thought of “building confidence” as one I’d like to work on, as I am moving countries (moving back home after 10 years abroad) and therefore changing jobs, house, culture and language.
I realise I’ve actually become a lot more self confident over the past couple of years, and am able to recognise and celebrate my achievements. I’m also very proud of the huge amount of life experience I’ve gained since living abroad.
Recently, my small/apologetic side has come out and I’m not sure if it’s really me, or just my automatic reaction to not wanting to tread on anyones toes when re-entering Australia (“tall-poppy syndrome” is perhaps the best phrase to sum up what I’m trying to avoid when I move back). I don’t like this “little me”, as I feel like I’m not being honest with myself. I feel great (if not fantastic) when I admit to myself and close friends here “I’m so freaking proud of myself for overcoming so many obstacles and growing as much as I have”.
Any thoughts, advice or helpful questions about my goal idea and/or concerns would be much appreciated!

Answer:

When we notice things like “Recently, my small/apologetic side has come out” it seems like we’re just making an observation of what’s happening to us. But everything we do is because of what we are thinking. We create it. This is the best news because you have the power you need to change it.
Make a list of all the things you think about your living abroad self. Then make a list of what you think about you going back to Australia. See what’s different and notice that it’s really not the location change, it’s what’s going on in your brain that is affecting how you feel.
I want to offer that often in situations like this, we think it’s going back to Australia or Tall Poppy Syndrome that is bringing up these thoughts, but when you look at it, it’s usually 1-3 people in your life you are afraid will cut you down.
Take a little bit of time to do these two exercises and bring back whatever comes up to AAC. Then you can set a goal that sounds fun and challenging from a clean place. A big, bright, tall gorgeous poppy who is just shining their light in the world kind of goal  😉
