Thank you. That was so helpful. It seemed really obvious as soon as you said it of course I was in overwhelm. When I wrote a list of what need doing it seemed instantly more manageable and I started working again.
Now the negative thoughts I’m coming up against are that ‘I’m not making enough progress’ and that ‘I should have got more done’ in each writing session and that I don’t have ‘enough to show for myself’ for the time I’ve put in. Even though I don’t think this is me being fair on myself I’ve not had loads of time to write and I have written quite a bit of material on a few different things. It’s just messy and no one thing is finished. It felt like I was very productive in the initial burst and now progress has slowed.
I think I’m scared because I’ve got things to this stage before and it’s got hard and I’ve abandoned them and I really want to break this pattern but I feel like I don’t have the proof that I can get past this stage and finish something. I really want to finish things and move on to the next as that is how you learn and get better.
Answer:
How perfect, you’ve gotten a good start on all your projects! Now what? If you didn’t have all this judgement about the progress you’ve made so far, what would be your next step?
If you came at this from your future self who of course does exactly what they need to do, what would that look like? What would you want to feel? What thoughts would help you create it?
You absolutely could go back through what you’ve written here, pull out all the thoughts that are blocking you and do some work to clean them up. Sometimes it can be more powerful just to stop believing your brain and get moving forward. Nothing is going wrong. You have every opportunity in front of you. It’s so fun! And it can be scary, too. So, what?
