I have such a hard time enjoying naps. I usually need them as part of a hard day protocol but I expect too much from it? It’s as if it doesn’t warrant merit unless I feel very energetic afterward.
C: I wake up from a nap
T: I don’t feel different/still tired
F: Disappointed
A: Scroll on phone, thinking I’m still tired
R: Don’t feel rested.
Answer:
When we feel disappointed it is often because our expectations do not match our lived experience and so we are left confronting something we thought we wouldn’t have to confront. For that reason, I think it’s a great idea to inspect what your expectations are of your naps and the reality of what you experience with your naps, and why you take them. Make some lists. Notice what comes up for you as you create them. Is it possible that your naps do warrant merit even if you don’t feel energetic afterward? Why or why not?
