Answer:

Congratulations on your upcoming move! Give yourself some love and compassion. The unknown is so scary for our brains. It sounds like you care very much about your pets. That’s not a bad thing.
When you think that your cats might die because of a decision you made, what is the worst case scenario that your brain can come up with? How would you feel? What would you say to yourself? What would your experience be like in your new home if that happened?
That’s what you’re really scared of. Your brain is convinced that worrying about this will protect you in the future. But instead it makes today miserable.
That’s why telling yourself the cats will be fine probably isn’t comforting you as much as you’d like it to.  We don’t have control of whether anyone or anything lives or dies.  We do get to decide how we treat ourselves. We do get to work on trusting ourselves to manage anything that happens in our lives. We get to choose whether or not we will blame ourselves for any mishap in life.
A thought I love is: if my cats die, I’ll deal with it then.
Try thinking of 5-10 thoughts about YOU that you can go to when you notice that guilt creeping up. It’s ok to be uncertain about the unknowns. Just don’t let those feelings drive your decisions.  See what you find and come back for more coaching.
