Hia.
Since my youngest started school in October I decided to devote more time to my jewellery business and make it work as my job around being a mum to 3 kids. I made really good progress from October- Christmas and sold most of what I was able to make but for the last three months my kids have had back to back illnesses I’ve had very little time to make jewellery or create my website. I have been unable to update my jewellery page or followers explaining the situation because it feels like a string of excuses or sob story and I feel stuck feeling like I’ve failed. I’m struggling to put myself out there much at all and feel a great sense of personal failure also a lot of fear around launching something unsustainable that I won’t be able to fulfil the demands of as health issues for my kids are likely to keep occurring. I have a lot of ideas hopes and dreams but many thoughts that cripple those and a general thought of not being enough. How can I start getting unstuck?
Answer:
Great question! Let’s start by looking at your model
C: Jewelry business. Children’s illness
T: I’ve failed
F: Stuck
A: Don’t update my page or followers, don’t put myself out there, believe my business is unsustainable, imagine not keeping up with demand, feeling like not enough
R: I fail myself.
It sounds like that since Xmas, your business has not gone as you expected. It makes sense that you may feel disappointed when life has not matched those expectations.
Notice how your brain is offering you one story. The brain likes to be right more than it likes to feel good. This means that it is going to look for evidence that you have or will fail. It is going to ignore everything else.
So take a moment to reflect on what ways have you not failed since Xmas?
Also, notice how while your brain is working on being right, it stops you from seeing other options. It is telling you that your options are to do your business the way you did prior to Xmas, or don’t do it at all. What are your options when your children get sick? Consider every possible answer, even if you don’t like the option.
Your list may look like,
-
I slow down when kids are sick
-
I look for childcare or someone to help
-
I focus on other parts of my business
-
I work at different times of day
