Writing Goal – Finishing Things – Part 5

Thank you. After reading this I did show it to a couple of people and this gave me the encouragement to get it done. I finished a draft in time for the main thing I wanted to send it to. So that was something to celebrate as when I started this thread I feared that I couldn’t finish anything at all. I also learnt a lot in the process of finishing it and I think I could get there quicker next time after what I’ve learnt.
Now what’s coming up is that the draft I finished was not as good as it could have been. I’m feeling very frustrated in general by not being as good a writer as I should be or as I want to be at the minute. I know you will always feel like this to some extent. But there’s a large gap between what I want to produce and what I seem able to. I’m painfully aware of all the flaws but I feel I don’t have the skill to fix them.
I know this is part of perfectionism. Basically everything I’ve had coaching on comes back to not feeling good enough.

Well first of all…there’s a HUUUUUGE CELEBRATION ON YOUR BEHALF TAKING PLACE OVER HERE! Congratulations!!! How are you celebrating yourself? This is as much a part of the process as writing the darn thing, so don’t gloss it over. You have earned this celebration!
Secondly – I’m curious about what (or who) you’re comparing yourself to. What does ‘good enough’ mean to you?
